Alas, no. Thanks though. Have tried pretty much everything I can think of, but can't figure this at all.
That Opera version works on my macbook air. However it's mac silicon not intel like yours.
But it could just be a data thing. Could you try clearing site data? Steps:
1. Click the lock to the left of lichess.org in the address bar
2. Click "Cookies and site data"
3. Click "Manage on-device site data"
4. Click the trash can next to lichess.org and confirm.

Have tried that, but no different. Red 'offline' banner bottom left still.
No idea why, but just restarted Opera because of a glitch elsewhere and the 'offline' banner has gone. All seems to be well. (I had tried restarting the lap-top (and Opera) before but this seems to have done it.

I do happen to face issues with opera as well, I can't even draw arrows. Any ideas or should I just switch browser?
Disable mouse gestures if you cannot draw arrows.
