Show with everything: outprepared with CK in 9 moves with Black, triple zero game, nice mate

Team match today against an old master, classical time control.

Prepared the 6. ... e7-e5 1-2 hours before the game, I wasn't aware before. Outprepared with CK in 9 moves with Black, triple zero game, nice mate

Sarg0n Black

Is it just me or am i wrong, but to me it seems the "old master" didn't play that well. Or is it just that mr. Sarg0n played that good? For instance i don't get the logic of 4. Bd3 and also 17. Nd2 is to me quite dubious. If somebody more experienced could open it up for me, i would appreciate that.

Thank you!
Well, 17. Nd2 seems to be the only move to save the a1 rook, which is about to be taken via b2 by the black queen.
4.Bd3 is just a good developping move, putting the bishop on a great diagonal, while staying flexible.
[Edit: Late reply, sorry]

I do not claim to be experienced or anything, but maybe I can help out...

The 4.Bd3 is not without logic. It prevents the standard Bf5 setup for Black in the Caro-Kann and defends c2 (allowing the white Queen to be more aggressive). Note that with the space on the c-file, Bf5 and Qc7 would put a lot of pressure on c2. It also leaves open the option for a classic Qc2 Bd3 battery (useful in some Caro-Kanns, like the Exchange, but not the norm for many e4 games)

By move 17, it is kind of late and White is trying to do the best that he can. White gives up a Knight rather than a Rook and Pawn (the threat being Qxb2 ... Qxa1 if the Knight doesn't move). Note that Na3 doesn't help either (Na3 Qxb2 Rd1 Bxa3 is kind of the same, if not a bit worse than the position resulting after Nd2).
It's enough to be more experienced than me (which doesn't take much).

Good analysis, now i understand the position better @AnalysisManZ00t . Obviously white played ok, but black played ofc better.
Thanx. Indeed, the old master has had better days.

In contrast to the usual pictures in the CK exchange e7-e5!? is a fresh try to something different. c3, h3 and the Bd3 has to move again are good reasons for Black.
The old master fell into a trap. He is not the first to do so.
@chesseater78 everyone has bad games. Even if Sarg0n played well, at least some of the perfect play is due to the old guy blundering. Ofc that does not take away from Sargons achievment.
